Shahmama Organization convened the international policy conference “Pathways to Justice and Human Rights for Women in Afghanistan” at the United Nations Office at Geneva on 15 June 2026.
The conference brought together representatives of governments, Permanent Missions, United Nations entities, international organizations, Afghan women leaders, civil society organizations, human rights defenders, and policy experts to discuss pathways toward justice, accountability, protection, and the meaningful participation of Afghan women and girls.

The event was co-sponsored by 11 Member States, the European Union, and UN Women, including the Permanent Missions of Canada, Switzerland, Afghanistan, France, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Iceland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Finland, and Belgium.
Throughout the conference, participants expressed deep concern over the continued deterioration of the human rights situation in Afghanistan, highlighting ongoing restrictions on women’s education, employment, freedom of movement, civic participation, and access to justice.
A central message emerged from the discussions: Afghan women continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience, leadership, and determination despite unprecedented challenges. Participants emphasized that their voices, experiences, and recommendations must remain at the center of all international efforts concerning Afghanistan.
The conference also served as an important platform for strengthening dialogue among governments, United Nations agencies, international partners, and Afghan women leaders while reaffirming the international community’s commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of the rights of Afghan women and girls.
